As Asian Americans continue to be the fastest-growing minority group in the U.S., it makes sense to acknowledge those who have helped paved the way in leadership and visibility. On Thursday, Georgia Asian Times, an English-language newspaper and online publication, honored the 25 most influential Asian Americans in Georgia with a dinner and awards reception at Happy Valley Restaurant in Norcross.

Along with community and business leaders, acoustic singing duo and Kollaboration Atlanta 4 competitors Joy Tolentino and Oscar Mendez were also present to perform in honor of the awardees. With an introduction by Li Wong, publisher of Georgia Asian Times, and Your’s Truly, Joy and Oscar came on stage to perform a cover of “”Make You Feel My Love”" by Adele and an original piece titled “Smile Anyway”.

As the evening went on, approximately 100 guests dined on beef broccoli, seafood stew, and other Chinese dishes before the award’s presentation. Gene Hanratty, Principal Consultant for the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York, was awarded the Community Spirit Award for leading the annual Atlanta Dragon Boat Festival. (This year’s event will take place on Saturday, September 8).

We’d like to congratulate all of the distinguished figures in attendance and hope to become more involved with them as we prepare for our next showcase in spring of 2013!
